IMAX is a proprietary system of high-resolution cameras, film formats, film projectors, and theaters known for having very large screens with a tall aspect ratio (approximately either 1.43:1 or 1.90:1) and steep stadium seating.

IMAX theaters - A standard IMAX theater has a huge rectangular screen. A typical IMAX screen is 16 meters high by 22 meters wide (approximately 52 by 72 feet), but they can be much larger. The largest IMAX screen is 30 meters (98 feet) high.
All those Imax shots are cropped down, which means anything outside the shorter frame will be missing from the version you watch online. Most of the time it's not a major issue, but it does mean the movie looks a little different. More annoyingly, the film is letterboxed with giant black bars on the top and bottom.

To answer your title question, no, not all IMAX theaters are domed... even true IMAX has more flat-style screens... in fact, the original IMAX screens were only slightly curved. A special setup had to be made for the domed screens you've seen.
