A play area called Convergence and a six-story parking deck with performance space will be built on 4 acres on the southeast side of Crystal Bridges' 120-acre campus and the adjoining western edge of the Amazeum's property, according to venue representatives.
It is the first major art museum (over $200 million endowment) to open in the United States since 1974. Over $317 million of the project's cost has been donated by Alice Walton. A 2013 Forbes ranking of the world's richest people placed the Walmart heiress at No. 16, with an estimated net worth of $26.3 billion.

Crystal Bridges is the pet project of Walmart heiress Alice Walton, whose father, Sam, started his cheap-retail empire in Bentonville, from whence it went on to swallow the world (Walton's original five-and-dime store, now the Walmart Visitors Center, is pictured above).
