You should use a crimping tool that crimps the PEX. Good luck with the crimping. The tool can be rented or purchased. Diagonal cutting pliers or end cutting pliers can be used to cut the clamps.
Connections for most PEX supply jobs require a special tool. There are several PEX supply connection methods, but only two affordable enough to be practical for DIYers: crimp rings and cinch clamps. Crimp rings are a band of metal, usually copper, that you slip over the fitting and compress with a crimp ring tool.
Also, the clamp rings can be susceptible to corrosion. If they fail at any point, there will be a catastrophic failure.
The most common connection method used in PEX installation is the “Crimp” method. This process involves sliding a ribbed fitting into the PEX tube and crimping a seal ring around the connection point. These rings are typically made of copper, but may be found in plastic as well as brass.
As with any other pipes, PEX is not prone to leaking. Nearly all of the plumbing leaks occur at joints (connection spots) and most of them are due to incorrect installation. Much like installing PEX tubing, repairing it is also an easy process.
Hot and Cold Water Lines Should Never Touch
The picture above is of PEX hot and cold water lines that have been run through the framing and are touching each other the entire way. This has passed the rough plumbing inspection and is ready for insulation and drywall.
When it comes to which method is better between crimping and cinching, it all comes down to personal preference and workload. If you are looking for a fast and more secure connection that will stand the test of time, crimp tools are your better option.
PEX crimp equipment is a lot more affordable than the expansion kits. However, despite the pricing and form shortcomings, most plumbers prefer to work with expansion because installation is more efficient. There are fewer leaks, and it also seems to be more durable against extreme colds and frozen pipes, etc.
Insert the fitting into the PEX pipe until it touches the shoulder of the fitting. Then slide the pinch clamp back towards the fitting, positioning the clamp 1/8” - 1/4” from the end of the pipe. This distance is critical to ensure that the crimp ring is positioned directly over the ribs or barbs of the fitting.
Of course, installing PEX pipes still involves expertise and a special tool. The specialized clamps used with PEX piping have been designed to provide tight, secure seals, but that's only possible if you use the right pinch clamp tool.
Mice and rats will chew through anything they can, including plastic, so PEX tubing is at just as much risk as the plastic-coated wiring in a car or an HVAC unit. While all rodent damage can be expensive, if rodents chew through a home's PEX water pipes, the result can be disastrous.
Generally, PEX pipes last for 25 to 40 years before they need to be replaced. By comparison, copper pipes last for around 50 to 70 years. PVC pipes also last 50 to 80 years. CPVC pipes last 50 to 75 years.
Brass its typically the best choice when the application demands a stronger fitting. In addition, plastic PEX fittings have a thicker wall requirement under ASTM2159 Standard, resulting in a reduced ID which restricts flow, while brass PEX fittings are manufactured to ASTM F1807 allowing for a larger flow passage.

Identify the pipe material.

Kink-Resistance - PEX-A has the greatest resistance, PEX-B the lowest. You should never install kinked pipe. Bursting Pressure – Always check the tubing for maximum temperature and pressure ratings. Remember, the pressure ratings decrease as the temperature of the water increases.
